In 2017 my husband was diagnosed with a severe case of prostate cancer and has cancerous spots on his kidney. During the time he was off work for prostate cancer surgery he was only getting paid 70% of his pay. After the follow-up visit, he found out that he also needed to have radiation for 40 days, 1 hour a day, to kill the remaining cells around the area. This caused him to lose approximately 10 hours a week from work. The loss of income put us in a bind and we are still trying to recover from it. He still needs to go back to have cancer removed from his kidney and now has a hernia that he will need to have removed. Both of these surgeries will require time off work so that will mean 70% of his pay again.
