My spouse and I recently moved my senior mother from Florida after the passing of my dad to live with us. We got a home where she could have her own mother in law apartment built in so she could maintain her independence. Since then we have also taken in a 1 year old foster child who needed an emergency placement as fictive kinship caregivers. It is looking like he may not return home and will become a permanent member of our family. We already are financially responsible fully for him, but will need to adopt him out of pocket as well should that come to fruition. My spouse also recently had a 22% reduction in salary by taking on a new job as she was a contractor where she was and this offer was for full time employment. My 130k in student loans recently went into repayment. Our little family has had a lot going on and 1 month payment on our mortgage would make a world of difference for us!
